The arboretum is a beautiful 180-acre oasis located on the grounds of the Southwest Florida State College campus. The nature center is an interactive experience with activities, exhibits and programs for all ages. You can also explore the many trails, walk along the boardwalk or fish in the lake. The Nature Store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the Nature Store is free, but you’ll need to bring exact change with you.

Bear’s Attic, Museum and Sanctuary

In downtown Lutz lies Bear’s Attic, a combination museum and sanctuary showcasing Florida’s indigenous flora and fauna. Bear’s Attic is the result of a collaboration between the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Lutz-Sarasota Botanical Association. Bear’s Attic is located in a restored historic building located on the historic St. Andrews Block. The building is a restored historic building with an intriguing past. In the early 1900s, this was the headquarters of the Gulf Refining Company, one of the largest oil companies in the Southwest Florida region. The building also served as a police precinct, courthouse and jail. There are artifacts and displays of the building’s past, as well as a gift shop, restaurant and outdoor seating area.
